Here Come the OLED TVs!!!

04/22/2008 1:43 PM

What? You still own an LCD TV? Don't you realize OLED TVs are lighter and have better contrast?

I'm glad these OLED TVs are finally coming out. It should only take five years to be able to afford one. Imagine how light laptops will be with OLED screens and solid state memory? If only they could make light batteries they's weigh almost nothing. Anyway, I was psyched when I saw this article and figured I'd share.

I suppose one could call this a significant innovation. With such low-weight TV sets there's much less chance of hurting your back when you pitch the @#$%! thing out the window because there's nothing actually worth watching on them.

Well I was waiting for LCD prices to come down a bit more but now it appears I will have to wait even longer. But this is the deal since it really puts LCD's in the mud with regard to contrast ratio.

Thanks Roger!

OLED TVs are too small and too expensive at this time, because only one company is actually making them for sale at this time I believe.

Once the technology has settled down, it will be possible to produce them to any size needed with what is basically a modified inkjet printer....wow!

I am guessing, but I predict at least 5 years before several companies are producing them in quantities and prices that are attractive for us all.....

Dolby is coming out with a new version of the LCD TV Screen, using 1000s of tiny high intensity white LEDs behind the screen instead of the usual lighting, these LEDs will be turned up and down individually to lighten highly lit areas and to darken dark areas, thus making the screen contrast much, much higher than has been possible with LCD up to now......but do not forget, OLED screens have a contrast of 1,000,000:1 !!! Which will still be hard to beat....

Dolby is a well known Audio company, it will be interesting to see how they get on with improving LCD screens! At least this technology will probably be available before cheap OLEDs.....

Time will tell......

That's interesting. I'm guessing they could really improve contrast.
