with Al-Pt pack process, and some cases only Al difusion pack

Hi,

so if your coating is mostly Al203 = alumina then this is soluble in HNO3 around 20% concentration and warm if not acting with sufficient velocity.

But this will attack also your base-metal, so you should add the nitrates of your base-metal to slow down this dissolution. May be this works, may be not.

Else you can try to dissolve the alumina in molten Na2CO3 (Soda), this will selectively dissolve only the oxides.

Please try and let us know what are the results.
