Do you mean smoke detectors?

Where are you installing, an apartment or a warehouse/factory?

This will give a clearer picture for an informed answer.

cheers,

First things first.

If your client is asking for more detectors and wants to redesign or reassign the locations, you'd better be sure to say that it will cost extra. 'Hope you protected yourself with that clause.

On the subject of detector locations:

Back when I was installing them, the manufacturer usually specified that a particular detector can cover X square meters of ceiling. Therefore, calculating the quantity of detectors is only a matter of knowing the area of the ceiling and the detection area of the detector.

There's a caveat there. If the room's ceiling is divided by beams or floor-to-ceiling shelves or walls, consider each section as a separate space.
