How to weld industrial fabrics? Hotseal? Dielectric? Vinyl cement?

I have been searching for a way to make vacuum bags for pressing wood veneers onto a sub-straight. I came across the www.ABBEON.com web site the other day, they have a handheld hot air tool that may do exactly what you want (Repairing tarps and awnings and making overlap welds in vinyls and coated fabrics) called the QUICK-LE by Forsthoff (list price at $375.00). A broad range a accessories are available . I don't know much about the company but when I contacted them they called back within a timely manner and where very helpful. Hope this Helps.

We are looking for a similar tool that includes rollers to ad pressure to the welding seam; but the one at Triad is above $10,000 ...which makes it expensive for us; in addition, I think it is not able to do turns for curved lines, and is not suitable for concave or curved surfaces.

The one I was thinking about is a hand-held hot air blower using a tip to suit the width of a a seam you want to create (5, 10, 20, 40mm). At a high heat setting it will melt the plastic between two layers of fabric quite fast. Your not adding any material but melting the material thats already there. Then press the seam by hand. This should be as fast if not faster than applying adhesives since the weld is fast and secure. You can do turns and curves in any direction, make or apply small pieces of fabric for stress areas etc. With accessories this unit is under five hundred dollars. If your making custom, one of a kind boat covers or proto-typing you may want to look into this small unit. It's a place to start and inexpressive way to lessen the cost of your learning curve. Don't just look at their site but give them a call and tell them what you want to do, they may have a better solution. Sorry if this is a little redundant. I just wanted to make sure you were looking at the same unit.

Have tried using Ethyl Vinyl Acetate (EVA) low hot melt glue? There are several grades available . It very user friendly, inexpensive, gives fantastic sealing properties especially on fabric surface and offers rapid cure. Application can be by hand held glue gun freely available in the market place. We make extensive use of EVA in our assembly line of carbon filter assembly.
