When I see LOL on a forum or in an email, does that stand for Laugh Out Loud or Lots Of Luck?

LOL YMMV

LOL can stand for a lots of things. It tends to have a lot to do with the syntax (yes net speak does have a syntax).
I tend to find the Laugh Out Loud tends to be at the end of a thought, while Lots of Luck tends to be at the start.
If it's just by itself most the time it will be Laugh Out Loud. It is more an explicit term.
Of Course YMMV ;)

Actually, it's a secret neo-con salute that stands for 'Love Our Leader.' Additionally, the phrase, 'No matter he does!' is implied, but is seldom incorporated into the initialization.

Couldn't Stop LOL

08/03/2006 10:23 AM

For most of the webbies it means Laugh out loud. For newbies it means Lots of laughs. But, it could mean Laughs on laughs or Laughing at yOur Last. It is used a lot as an insult or a retort within a serious discussion, but can also be just an expression of acknowledging the humor in a previous statement. If the subject was really funny, they might post with LMAOROTFL.
