Concast Machine Mould Jacket Query

the mould jacket is meant for 100 * 100 mm copper mould tube with 8 mm thickness and we have a 100* 100 mm 6 mm copper mould tube. there is a gap of of 2 mm in the jacket where copper mould tube is fitted in the 4/7 metre radius continous casting machine. please help me in filling this gap.is there any way in which i can fill this gap without going for a new copper mould tube and the mould jacket?thank you.

The point of the mold jacket is to remove heat from the mold tube. Copper is specified for its thermal conduction, the water flowing through the jacket is to remove heat.

air is an insulator.

You are asking by what means can you modify the aparatus that you have to behave as if the air gap does not exist and heat will be conducted away from the tube to the jacket despite this gap.

Short of flawlessly metalizing with copper or silver either the jacket or the tube to eliminate the gap, I believe that no solution exists.

I would caution you against trying to operate in this situation. A breakout of hot metal will cause steam explosion and deaths are likely of caster personel.

Order 100 * 100mm 8mm mold tubes.

And create a process that your purchasing department can follow to be sure that that is what you get.
