A global engineering forum might not know why "we" select 3/4" x 1" thermal relief valve on cooling water service, as the selection may be carried out according to local customs, practices and Standards.

Er, why are thermal relief valves used on cooling water service at this particular location? Are the process cooling surfaces undersized to the extent that boiling occurs?
