Presumably you mean metric tons (or tonnes) rather than any of the other tons that are used around the place...

Water has a density of 1000 kg per cubic metre - which gives you 1 tonne per 1000 litres. So your 10,000L will have a mass of 10 tonnes.

This is dependent on temperature - it's about 996kg per cubic metre at 18degrees C - if you need complete accuracy get hold of the density v temperature formula for water - it doesn't range very far from the basic "1000 litres = 1 tonne" though for common temperatures.

So, 10,000 litlers (10 kl) = 10 metric tons.

As a check, I use english units. 1 liter is about 1/4 of a gallon, and a gallon weighs about 8 pounds ("A pint's a pound, the world around") so yeah, a liter is a little over 2 pounds, and a kilogram is 2.2 lbs. 10,000 liters x 2.2 pounds/2200 lbs per metric ton = 10 metric tons, so it works.

Arrgggggghhhhhh!!.... No please don't confuse things with gallons UK or USA and pints UK or USA measures!!!

A UK gallon is about 10 pounds and one of 'our' pint's is a pound in weight!!

John

Should we start with cups or tablespoons then?

I consider it fairly variable due to temperature, although between 0C and 25C you could get away with ignoring the density change.

you can express 10,000 liters of water in tons by the following convertion:

1 liter=1kg(approx.)

1 ton(metric)=1000kgs

therefore;

10,000 liters x 1 kg/1 liter x 1ton/1000 kgs=10 tons of water

1 liter of water = 1 kilogram.

1,000 kilograms = 1 metric ton

1 metric ton = 1.1 imperial tons

10,000 liters of water = 10 metric tons = 11 imperial tons
