to find the angle

A swimmer wants to reach to appoint just opposite on the other bank of the river. How should he swim and why ?

If the river is impeded with no flow he can swim straight to the point.

With the river flowing I would still swim straight across and rather walk back because it would require the least energy.

If there is a waterfall below he should walk straight to a shrink.

I realize that the real question is about getting the 2 sides of the velocity triangle, but that is school work and I will leave it to you.

In real life the velocity of the river changes as you swim across and the calculated angle may be wrong. (I experienced it in real life and almost did not make it)

He should swim to the nearest homework forum (there are lots), and show his work.
