It depends on the type of SS you are welding and the processes you have to work with. It is considered the best choice to match the filler metal to the base metal. Contact a local welding supply company and tell them what type of SS you have and if you will be using MIG, TIG, or SMAW for the repair. It is in their best interest to supply you with the correct rods. Otherwise next time you will likely take your business elsewhere.
