HT voltage

06/11/2008 10:59 PM

we are doing project on "cost analysis between 11KV and 6.6KV for a same capacity cement plant".obiviously 11KV cement plant getting more money.but we can recover that by means of reducing the loss(i^2*R) when compared to 6.6KV.

my doubt is the design people have designed both the 11kv and 6.6kv plant.they have known which is convenient.why they will be seleted 6.6kv once again.is there any specific technical reason .please guide me.

Typically, the higher the voltage, the more expensive the equipment investment is. So in the past, even though the 6.6kV meant higher current and more copper than 11kV, the switchgear, circuit breakers, motor winding insulation etc. would be more expensive because of the higher insulation and impulse levels.

But in the current climate of extremely high copper prices, I would venture to guess that the higher voltage may now result in lower capital equipment costs.

What about asking the 'design people'?
