Diode High Voltage - High Current.

06/12/2008 9:04 AM

For experimental use I need some diode with these characteristics High Voltage about 15 000 Volt and High current about 150 ampere.

Can you help me to find those products, or something like this. Maybe some voltage low but I need high current for my research.

Thank YOU!

Try this manufacturer High Voltage Power Solutions

Hello Zirkond

A single "diode" with that specification is not available.

You will need to use several in series, and use a voltage balancing set of series resistors connected in series across the diode string with a connection effectively in parallel to the diodes, so that the voltage across each diode is effectively equal at all times.

I do assume that your 15kV and 150 Amp figures are correct, so please note what you are experimenting with is at least 2.25 Megawatts, which would result in a massive explosion if there is a failure anywhere.

Kind Regards....

In addition to putting diodes in series, you will need to keep them separated spatially from each other and with high voltage insulation along the diode string. Avoid sharp edges throughout your design. I used a system like this at 60 kV a few years ago and we had numerous plasma arcs until we got every piece of the circuit isolated from ground and from other parts of the circuit. High Voltage Silicone in a tube is invaluable.

Good Luck ... and be careful. We allowed no one in the room when our system was energized ... suggest you do the same.

Mind telling us what your research is about? Sounds dangerous!

Hi I am doing some research for some unstable products and their behaviors under high voltage and high current.

regards,
