What does the Client's Engineering Standards say on the subject?

As has been said by many people in many different threads, you need to verify what the code in effect in the relevant jurisdiction has to say about any given issue and as PW has mentioned, you had better see if your customer has their own guidelines that are more stringent..

Having said that, in Canada, the CEC rule 12-2200 details the requirements.

With cables less then 50mm in diameter in a tray, the minimum vertical clearance is 150mm between trays.

With cables greater then 50mm in diameter in a tray, the minimum vertical clearence is 300mm between trays.

Side clearence, to a wall or another tray, is 600mm.

Hi,

Minimum 300 mm ( one feet clearence) shall be required between the trays. In the side ways 600 mm ( 2 feet) for walkway is required.

Whenever the cable route crooses near to the fire exit then minimum 2.10 Mtr. ( 7 feet) clerance from the Ground is required.

This standard has been globally follwed.

Hi,

The Horizontal clerearence betwwen the trys shall be 500 mm Minimum, considering the movement of personalle between the cable trays.

Each tray can have any no. of cables dependent on the Cable Tray Width and the Cable tray cross section. (ie. 100mm, 300 mm, 600 mm, 900 mm).

One more thing to keep in mind during cable tray routing design, 10 % space in each tray shall be left for future use.

These trays shal be seprated 500 mm apart horizonatlly through Unistrut Supporting Structure. As already expelained to you the vertical clearence shall be 250 mm or 300 mm.

The minimum distance has to be zero, i.e. in contact with each other, though a local applicable Engineering standard might say different; such a thing cannot be seen from here.
