Stators in Pump Jet Inlets

06/27/2008 2:40 PM

I am researching water jet (pump jet propulsor design and have noticed that some designs have a stator in the inlet just ahead of the impeller. What is the inlet stator function? What are the advantages/disadvantages of using such a stator?

Optimise the flow angle in front of the impeller blades. Depends of rpm and fow speed so that if fixed could under circumstances generate losses.
