If YOU were given the assignment then surely designing the circuit diagram is part of the assignment. I will be surprised if anyone on this forum will GIVE you one even if you provided sufficient requirements.

At least have a go yourself and tell us where you are struggling with it. You are more likely to get help that way.

There are many kind of components in the market for this purpose( door switches, movement detectors, infrared bariers, cameras...etc). In addition you must construct a central processing station.

How to help you without knowing at least physical layout of place that you live in?

Why don't you think to get help of a security company? At a minimum you might learn what are necessary and where they will be placed...

Ok. Go to B&Q (usual disclaimer) and buy one.

I actually use two marvellously cheap movement detector alarms in my caravan from B&Q. Bought many years ago and they still work fine and are amazingly economical in batteries, several years between replacements.

But I somehow feel that what he needs is something better.....

I actually sell a German alarm system that covers all doors and windows in a house or building up to 6 floors and 36,000 square feet, without needing either wires everywhere, or multiple radio connections. These multiple radio connections for all the sensors have proved to make most of these systems very unreliable in operation.....the Police in Germany impose fines if called out too often for "False Alarms"!!! Set up correctly, it has already detected the insertion and first "pull" of a jemmy in a window frame!!!

As long as you do not open or close outside windows and doors, or slam internal doors, you can move about without setting it off. Electric storms and thunder/loud noises also do not set it off as the do the "look-a-likes".......

In fact it has only 2 radio connections, one for the remote control(s) to turn it off and on and one that is used for the remote Solar siren(s) (optional extra) and the smoke and fire sensors (also optional).

It has a 48 hour battery backup as standard.

I actually "install" it on demos in about 5 minutes without drilling holes or anything, just by plugging into a power socket and running the setup program, it impresses the hell out of the customers.....it also has the advantage of coming in its own travelling case, and can be packed up if you move in a very short time......since that little girl was stolen in Portugal last year, people buy them and take them on holiday to safeguard their kids!!!

It has been patented since the 1980's and many have tried to make something similar, but have never managed it!!!

It costs around $2,500 or so (maybe not exact as the Dollar has fallen) or €1,900.

We also sell a small simpler one with a rechargeable (12 volt, 115volt and 220volt) 1 year running on battery (once charged) for caravans and remote lodges without electricity.......

Andy,

I noticed you asked the original poster where he lived. You're not going to go and rob him because you know he doesn't have an alarm system are you?

Only joking, but this guy is doing an assignment so buying is not an option and as I pointed out in my first reply without knowing more about the requirements or where he is falling flat, there is little we can do to help

I am with you on your comments completely.

I suspect that nobody has actually counted the costs of designing from scratch, especially if you have little idea even how to start!!! Buying from a good company is a better, faster and cheaper option.

If I was designing a conventional system today, I would not need to ask on CR4 for help as all the units are easily bought and connected to each other with very little knowledge needed!! The manufacturers even supply the information in small booklets for free....

ebay has many companies supplying such units.....
