NOKIA N73 Protocol

07/06/2008 7:19 AM

Hi all

Recently I saw a friend of mine connect his chinese make cellphone to a keyboard and upload a ringtone with multiple tracks and everything...

I was wondering if it was possible on my NOKIA N73...

The connector has ASIC pins (2) and if anyone can tell me about the interface or the protocol i could try and use....

I got a korg as well as a yamaha PSR3000 electronic keyboard and I can gett a MIDI out from each...

Any suggestions ppl???

Easiest route would probably be via a PC. Get the ringtone/tune/whatever onto the PC (as an mp3 file), then either use USB (presumably a cable was supplied with your phone), or Bluetooth (you can get a USB Bluetooth dongle for your PC for a few £/$/€ or whatever).

NOKIA N73 Protocol

07/07/2008 3:30 AM

Oh yeah.... I figured that will be the easy way...

I actually want to take this on as a project and see how far I can go. Maybe if the tone generator can be controlled using a M/c and other such stuff like camera zoom etc.

There is enough information availabe about using the F-bus for SMS sending and recieving. It can also turn on your water heater etc in your house by simply sending a msg from your cell phone.

My aim is to connect it to an MCU and see how much external control is possible to get. Various softwares can be used one this is established.

So.... If anyone knows more about the F-bus protocol and interface with the device plz plz lemme know.

Hey thanx Alan

I had been to this website and have some trouble with it. The page says that the F-bus may be used for sms transfer as well as other stuff....

Yet, the info is only pertaining to sms and not the "various other controls". Also i think this is for the lower models like 6110 etc and the N-series has a slightly different interface. I am still looking...

I got the N73 Shematics from http://rapidshare.com/files/83942380/Share_Nokia_N73_Service_Manual__Level_1_2_.rar

It is a really good manual

I also got a protocol description from

http://wiki.gnokii.org/index.php/Protocol_description

But, it is for Nokia 6210 and if anyone knows if it will work for N73, plz lemme know.

Have you actually asked nokia for details about their protocol?

Hey again,

I just went thru my original post and realized that I havnt at all expressed myself correctly. I am sorry.

Actually, the guy was playing on his keyboard while the sound came from the cellphone. The keyboard was simply a set of buttons, no speakers etc. It was simply using the mobile circuits for tone generation.

My sincere apologies for being unclear

Mrin

Thanx guys,

I still havnt contacted Nokia but I have managed to find various other s/ws working with "plug-in" devices with the Nokia N73. Will check how to use the bus with trial and error. It should be too difficult to figure out. It is simply a matter of days.... I guess .

Hey I also bought a Nokia E51 to play with....

Any ideas anyone??
