Seeking "Guts" for Electric Incinerating Toilet

07/07/2008 12:58 PM

I've looked through the most prevalent sites [Incinolet, Envirolet] for electric incinerating toilets, with no success--further, searches over internet have not returned anything suitable--I'm looking for the "guts", such as the incinerating portion w/bowl, etc. but not the "housing" as we will be providing our own (these are for philanthropic project and will not be sold)--must be electric as it will run off solar-generated electricity.

Any suggestions?

wow, do not know the reason for a incinerating toilet, I hope the safety devices don't fail while using it. .

Hmmmm . . . must be a very large solar panel to provide the power necessary to incinerate the waste. Seems like about 2 kW is about what it'll take.

Rather than deal with the lousy conversion efficiency of PV panels, cook the goods using a solar concentrator. That should result in efficiencies approaching 90% with little difficulty.

That will shine some light on your bottom line.

As long as it does not - "....... shine some light on your bottom."

That could be painful.....

Uggghh! I spent almost 2 weeks on a barge just off-the-beach in El Salvadore, having an incinerator-head on the back deck. When the wind-drift was the wrong way, one couldn't stand to be out there!

I can't help but think that the monies spent might go a long way towards an appropriately enzyme-boosted septic system ... or even a half-dozen shovels. (There are appropriate 'digesters' that live in the soil for just that purpose, put there for just that purpose by our creator...Deuteronomy 23:13)

Best to All !

Right--those would be the little things, put there in God's infinite wisdom, that saved Gene Barry and Ann Robinson in "War of the Worlds" 1953

Yes, don't use that method. Proper composting toilets are greener than solar-powered incinerating toilets. Come up with a publicly acceptable composting toilet and save the world. Sh*t is mostly water which will take vast amounts of electricity to raise its temperature and eventually change to steam. Use smaller amounts of electricity to tumble and aerate number twos with additives of the correct CN mix and it will sanitize itself and generate heat.

OK--no intentions of inserting copper rods--but it might be a good place to hide the remaining months of the Cheney administration

Well, here is the application:

"We" are working to develop a system, which we call an "Electric Village"--it is intended for developing countries, and is actually a scheme to get despotic governments to deed land to the inhabitants of these villages--we are going to use a large-scale system to convert solar energy to electricity, powering up to twelve habitats [ten "homes" and two "community" buildings] with enough excess energy to run atmospheric water harvesting, and enough to run some electric toilets [which at the high wattage I've seen for them may mean a community "set" of toilets rather than the ideal of one per house.] Part of why we want electric incinerating toilets is the water issue--it would probably be necessary/desireable to have a greywater system to deal with liquid wastesOk, that is what I'm having beat into me--I actually agree that a composting toilet would be better, but since the BOSS doesn't like them, I have to go with what he wants I'm often told "There are many ways to do this project" which on the surface is true--but the reality is there is only one way, the BOSS's way--for example, when I suggest using bricks, since that seems to be the most prevalent and inexpensive building materialI usually end up under a ton of 'em--the BOSS has good reasons for how he wants to do things ["It has to look like a house; It has to work like a house; It has to accommodate two adults and up to four children; It shouldn't crush people in an earthquake; It has to cost less than $500 to build"]--We will be welcomed as liberators![We know how THAT usually turns out!]

In all seriousness, I believe in the concept, AND I believe in my BOSS being swayed by reasoned argument, which has resulted in significant change to the concept already. The concept is to get land deeded to villagers [if it isn't already], set up "community blocks" of 50 to 75 people/families, provide them with useful shelter, power, clean water and means to put their land to use, be it agricultural, light industry, etc. I'm really trying to steer us away from "White Man's Burden" sort of philanthropy and just stick to "a hand up, not a hand out" style--in any event, we are looking at the electric toilet as a means to avoid septic systems and using up water on a flush system--maybe I'm justbanging my head against the wall, but after seeing how much these units are, my mandate has been enlarged to find the "guts" of the toilet...if they can be had.

Again, I've look at Incinolet [sent them an inquiry for a joint venture proposition] and Envirolet, and I'm familiar with the players in composting toilets as well--I've even asked Storburn if they make electric versions of their propane units.Well, I'm being paged--thanks for all the kind help and suggestions...
