Next technology after VOIP

07/10/2008 1:26 AM

Throw this out at large. I have been asked by a client to future proof for the next big technology after VOIP?

Ideas anyone?

I am working on mental telepathy. Can't seem to achieve an adequate signal to noise ratio though.

Try Magneto Hydrodynamic Propulsion, Z-machine, over-unity devices

I see the history of technology development after the industrial revolution and taylorism made a shift to abstract levels as are communication and computing. Now these have become quite developed we need to focus on the roots again to make our living even more comfortable. After getting cheap and abundant communication we need cheap and abundant energy. With that we can get everything done. Well, almost anything. Man does not want to work to have money to buy energy. Man is lazy.

Lazyness is man biggest drive for ingeniosity. Think about that.

BTW : Look at 3D Video; it is fantastic and becoming possible with super large bandwith internet. Orange is working on it in France.

Leisure and Lazyness go hand in hand, you know.

3D video and cheap energy : You will all love it.

Isn't the human race not a fantastic example of civilisation?

I've been thinking of (electric) power over radio.

In both transmission and distribution. This will eliminate the use of wirelines.

I'm not crazy though, just thinking.

Cheers,

ethobil

Nicola Tesla stuff. Yeah, good idea. Cheap energy. check it out on www.rexresearch.com

By the way : I don't like talking about free energy because it is incompatible with most engineers. But energy does not need to come for free. If it comes very cheaply, it can make mankind sufficiently lazy and spend all its time on leisure. It can make humans believe they achieved the highest state of civilisation. Well, it depends how the marketing guys package the whole thing.

An interesting site there. Thank you for the link.

Indeed, energy does not need to come free but should be affordable by all.

Seriously, do you really think that energy comming very cheaply can make mankind sufficiently lazy?, i do not think so, since energy is but a means to an end and not an end on its own.

cheers,

ethobil

Apparently confusion reigns. Are you talking about the replacement communications technology that might replace VOIP, or the next boom in technological development generally?

With such a question, possibly in behalf of straw, that (your issue) is most likely a distinction without a difference. So it would perhaps be better characterized as a case of reins that confuse.

there is no answer to that question.

you can safely tell them that if they are seeking to spend more money, you could provide the empty raceway, conduit and pull springs etc to assure implementing the next technology is much less time consuming and therefore less expensive.

back when people were running bell wire.. there were pre wire upgrades that made some sense.

We have reached an in house theoretical limit with Cat-5,6,7.. You can bet this guy has experience being burned in the past. Let him breath a little sigh of relief.. Surprise him and don't look for the big upsell...

Running black fiber is a waste of money for those who don't have a specific use for it.

Running empty pipe is something that will [always] be used.
