Hi,

what about water-glas = sodium-silicate?

Cheap, easy to apply, will soak into the surface if diluted and react with any metal-oxide to chemically stable silicates.

Would traffic cause this to break down into a hazardous dust?

Got trees? Here's a product that uses tree resins and is relatively environmentally friendly.

Some thing to consider when chosing a product:

1) Shipping costs on liquid pre-mixed on concentrated products.

2) Does the product stick to clothes or machinery?

3) Environmental impact.

4) How long between re-applications?

5) Ease of use

6) Weather effects

Just get a cheap old water spraying truck and spray water as needed. Road construction crews around here do it all the time and it holds the dust down very well - even with giant dump trucks, rigs and pickup trucks doing 30 to 60 mph down the dirt road. After that comes the three big questions: 1. How much traffic must this support? 2. Does this dust control need to be permanent (and how "permanent" is that)? and 3. How much money are you willing to spend on it (now and each year thereafter)?

Remember, if you want the oil spray (as has been suggested) to last more than a week, you need to put gravel down first. Otherwise you've got to use lots more oil with a very long soak-in time (which also will affect ground water more).

Go to www.erosioncontrol.com

July/August 2008 issue is all about dust control solutions, it also supplies a large list of dust control supplies some of which supply to the US military for landing pads for aircraft in Iraq.
