Autodesk Inventor 11-Slots

07/12/2008 8:30 AM

If anyone uses Inventor 11 could you point me in the right direction? I'm trying to put slots on a part and can't seem to figure out how to do it. I thought it would be with the Hole option, but I can't find anything there. Specifically, I'm trying to make counterbored slots.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I just checked the Help files in Inventor, and they say nothing about slots. You will probably have to sketch a profile of the inner bore and do a cut extrusion all the way through the part. The counterbore will need its own profile, but with a cut extrusion to the specified depth. For more than one slot, use rectangular patterns of the extrusions.

I don't know if the later versions of Inventor have a placed slot feature, but you might google them to see if they do. If you would like to see such a feature added to Inventor, the Autoesk User Group Internatonal surveys for "wish lists" for the Autodesk products, and depending on demand, Adesk implements them. Go to www.augi.com.

Thanks for your reply! That's actually what I ended up doing, but I will fill out that wish list.

I've moved on from Inventor 11 but I think this command was available there, use the 'place feature' command from the browser, this gives a dialogue box from which you can select a number of features including straight & curved slots. Once you have created the slot, use the chamfer tool to add the countersink.
