Voltage Reference IC with Temperature Output Source???

07/16/2008 10:40 AM

I am currently working on the development of a pressure transducer, the ADC reference of which is set by a MAX6173, I'm usuing the temperature output for calibration purposes. The problem is I need the circuit to operate down to 3.3 Volts and the MAX 6173 is rated at a minimum of 4.5V. Operating the cicuit at 5 Volts is not an option as this triples the quiescent current consumption and it will be battery operated. Is there such a device that will give a precision voltage reference and a temperature reference output with specification I require? (min 3Volts Ideally) I have searched the obvious Maxim, LT, NS, AD etc.

Thanks,

Craig.

What's wrong with a bandgap reference? they will work down to 1.8 volts giving a reference of 1.22... volts...

Why do you need a temperature source..? is it to compensate the transducer.... if so why not use a separate one...

There are Oooodles of pressure sensors around, what's so special about this one?

Hi Electroman,

Thanks for your reply, the reason for the limitations is purely that I have been asked to modify an existing pcb, the original IC is now obsolete and the MAX IC was pin for pin compatible (more or less), the temperture reference is for compensation and there is a place on the board for a seperate sensor, we've had linearity issues with this option though. An available SOIC with temperature and the required spec is preferable.

What about the MAX6610? The Ref V is 2.56V instead of 2.500 (for easy ADC scaling), if you can live with that, it works down to 3.0V. Here's the link to the datasheet.

Hello Tom,

I've already considered this part which seems ideal but I would prefer it in an SO8 package, the problem is we have 2,500 of these PCB's in stock and would prefer to minimise the rework time required.

Thanks for your reply,

Craig
