drain in inst. air system

07/17/2008 12:22 AM

I have got instrument air 1.5" pipe in a one of the power project. This is SS pipe going underground. Some places it is passing through trench also & comping up. At this time it is making loop. Do i need to provide a drain point at the low point of this loop in trench. If it is going u/g & coming up then do i need to provide the drain in the u/g line if yes how to make the arrangement ?

It depends upon how dry the instrument air is.

If the ambient air temperature is always above the instrument air dewpoint, then no, drain points are not needed as there will never be any moisture to drain from the line.

I would provide a access to drain the this leg. Even though the air should be clean and moisture free as required for instrumentation. There is the probability that the devices that clean and dry the air may malfunction at some time. I does not have to be a drain as such just an accessible port to clean the line if necessary.
