Ring type joint is recommended for rating greater than 900# but it is available in 300#.Why?

It is recommended by ASME code.My question is why it is included in 300# spec?

Also tell me its comparison with weld neck with respect to manufacturing cost, labour cost (site in texas),corrosivity, environmental conditions, market availability, future provision ,etc.Pl. note that this is not a one line reply.

Thanks

Sachin

You have to remember, ASME codes are not a law except in public places. If you chose to use the Russian piping standards on private property, you can and their is no one to stop you. In Texas you do not even have to have "ASME CODED" vessels, you can self certify. Some engineers belive you can line up ring joints better. I've hand I've a misaligned ring joint that leaked, but if would have been a gasket, the gasket would have failed, not leaked. On extreme high temperatures, the ring joint is a bettter system.

As for costs, availability. its all up to YOUR economic analysis. I've seen internal standards that dictate ansi 600 and less ring joints. I've had vessels with 250 psi rating and ring joints on the manways.

I am very much impressed with your answer.

Other question is about valves, their selection, valve trim material selection, choice between full & reduced port, end connection used (that depends on valve MOC),etc.

Thanks & Regards
