A good overview of handling used oil and how it can be recycled is available as a .pdf here:

http://www.epa.gov/epaoswer/hazwaste/usedoil/usedoil.pdf

Here is an interesting international Patent disclosing a "novel" way of "simultaneous dehydration and desalting of the oil waste and the cleaning thereof from mechanical impurities and sulphur by means of vibrocavitation oscillations produced by a rotatable vibration apparatus, a two-stage heating of a hydrocarbon mass and the circulation and recirculation thereof. " http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?wo=2003029385

My personal favorite (given the ever increasing cost of Coke) is the use of used oil filters as a blast furnace feedstock. While ' Combustion' may not constitute recycling per se, the problem of used oil filter disposal is a difficult one, and the additional BTU's and carbon potential for the furnace make this an interesting alternative.

Knowing that one pint of oil is enough to make an oil slick about the size of a football field- containment and capture of all oily wastes is essential. The used oil filter recycling process seems like an area worthy of further work.

I have received your email and have responded to you privately.

Dear MILO

Thanks for your valuable comments that is too helpfull to me.

The most suitable project is that " recycling of Engine oil" that will be suitable for what we say the third world countries.I mean this project has good feasibity study.I think your proposal of the "filter recycling" will be suitable more for the first and second worlds. thanks

No doubt that there will be more oil to recycle than filters.

But the filters are part of the expected waste stream. and they provide a source of metallics as well as oil...

So your plan should consider what to do with spent filters too.

Dear MILO

Sure what you must be put in consideration.now let us concentrate at the "know how" of this project.if we have one kilogram of used engine oil which is required to be recycled.so we have to discuss the following:

1-What are the required materials ,also it's weight refering to 1kg?

2-The process for acheaving our purpose.

Hoping to have help from our friends who has any experience in this field. Thanks

Aly Badawy:

The yield and process will depend on the composition of the waste stream that you are recovering.

Here is a link to some good benchmark data for you to use as estimates to develop your business plan.:

http://www.usedoilrefining.com/mytol_recovery.asp

Personally I would look at the opportunity like an ecological succession or like building a fire, start small, master the step, then move to the next step up the technology chain.

The acid clay process would be a likely beginning step.

http://www.usedoilrefining.com/other_process.asp

However, you need to have a plan for the disposal of the process waste fromyour recovery.

A small turnkey system can also be purchased, Here is a link to one for you:

Our host Globalspec lists 15 suppliers of such equipment: http://tinyurl.com/69kj3h (you will have to register).

Nice collaborating with you.
