Test gear

08/06/2008 3:12 PM

Anybody out there who can repair/recalibrate older analog spectrum analyzers? This one is a working 2GHz Anritsu that has been through the mill. There is an intermittent in the front end signal input that I cannot find. The model # is MS610.

I can't, but I might know a bloke who can. Where you from? Do you have manual/ccts?

I am from the Great White North (Jasper, Alberta). Getting my gear to and from somewhere will be interesting but if the destination is worth the risk.......

I no longer have any access to the original schematics and I never did have the manuals. It is a staight forward machine. I can try to get any information from the archives in Anritsu. I bought the unit back in '95 and the papers with it were bleak.

Is the fellow you reffer to in North America?

Thanks

intermittend? did you check the soldering to the inputs, maybe you can reheat them.

does it start immeadiatly or after it heats up? then one of the ic's could have a problem. You could use cold spray to check if the problem dissappears.

Did you check the net for schematic?

Anritsu is that a Japanese brand?

I helped design the Marconi spectrum analyser back in the 70s.

I would say its going to be difficult to help not only because of the distance but the lack of schematics etc...

If it is the front end - that's usually where faults occur - look for obvious component problems and trace an input signal with a scope throught the input attenustor to the input filter and first mixer...

I bet its in there somewhere... John.

John

Yes, Anritsu is Japanese. I have yet to hear back from their archives regarding the schematics. I can probably track down the bad solder joint if I take the time to pull it all apart. It fires up straight away but needs a little help maintaining a steady display. I would like to also have the display realigned as it is not quite linear. It may need the back yoke on the CRT reset. That would be a good time to look at the calibration. The trace rotation does not quite do the trick although it is close.

Any ideas on who could do any calibration for me if I take care of the front end problems?
