Chemical reaction

Hi Answerers,

I need your help reg the below .

What will be the reaction when the enamel of cu wire reacts with the epoxy(namely Structalit).

Share ur ideas to enlighten my doubts.

Sparky's answer is very good. The only way to be sure is to know the chemical composition of the enamel and the epoxy.

As a very general rule, epoxies are often free of the sorts of solvents that would attack most wire enamels. Also, epoxies rarely make chemical bonds (they don't typically etch a surface and form a new compound at the adhesive interface). Adhesion is improved by sanding or otherwise roughening the materials to be bonded, and epoxy often bonds smooth plastics (and even some roughened plastics) poorly. If you are potting something in epoxy, you often do not require strong adhesion, however.

But there are exceptions (sometimes dramatic exceptions) to these rules of thumb, so contact the manufacturer of the wire and the epoxy.
