Cast Resin Transformers L.V Winding

08/11/2008 5:45 PM

Hi All,

Hope all are well.

I need to make a comparison between Aluminium Foil winding Vs Copper Foil winding at the L.V side of the cast resin (dry) distribution transformers. What are the advantages of Aluminium foil over copper foil winding. The transformer is 11/0.430 kV.

Thanks

Hello Eng.alasad

I do trust this is not a Class or Homework Question, because those are against the Rules.

The comparisons are easy to do:

Copper_ Aluminium

Expensive____________________Cheap

Easy to weld_________________Difficult to weld

Withstands sudden overload____Melts

Heavy______________________Light

Reddish Brown_______________Silver Colour

Low Corrosion_______________High Corrosion

There are other comparisons, and if you think a bit about your own question, you should be able to come up with several more.

Kind Regards....
