EHV Cables: On-Site Testing

08/17/2008 8:53 AM

Dear All.

Can you please suggest as to what are the High Voltage tests to be conducted on EHV class XLPE cables (say 220kV) after their installation (laying) at site.

What are the equipment required for conducting these tests.

The tests will be specified in the end Client's requirements and specifications.

The equipment and the test procedure will need to have been completed by the installation subcontractor, and witnessed, before the invoice is paid.

In the past there was only a DC high pot test but now a days there is an option of AC, VLF test. This depends on the client that what type of test they prefer. The test equipments named a DC Highpot tester and VLF Tester.
