What are you buffing with? Are you using any compounds/cleaners?

I hope, if you are using wire brushes, that they are made from stainless steel themselves.

The black particles could simply be the abrasive wear of whatever you are using.

I don't see any harm in doing this buffing, except for having to clean whatever compound or grit that is left behind.

depends what type of finish your looking for your can use grit flapper wheels or discs, skotch brite pads, as far as the black particals it could be residue left over from the product or buffing media.

Be sure to use buffing or grinding media that DID NOT grind, buff or polish ferrous metals.

Be careful to keep tools for SS grinding and polishing from tools used with carbon steel work. I know of one vendor that has seperate buildings for stainless steel fabrication and carbon steel fabrication to avoid contamination issues.

My shop was a restricted shop. Meaning I could only do nonferrous material.

Just due to the fact that we designed and fabricated process equipment for the food and dairy industry but it was and especially setup for the pharmaceutical industry.

More fabricators are seeing the value of this, and especially the end user.
