Viscosity Conversion

I wish to determine the viscosity of a mineral slurry in order to size a mixer. Unfortunately the only property that can be provided is the yield stress of the slurry taken with a vane viscometer. This yield stress is 200Pa. Please advise how I can convert this value into a centipoise valve to use in my calculations?

The thing that is missing is the shear rate. Shear stress divided by shear rate is the viscosity.

Viscosity divided by density is the kinematic viscosity, which has the dimensions of area squared divided by time.

Sorry to add further to this problem, but mineral slurries are almost invariably shear thinning fluids. This means that you will need to get the full graph of viscosity vs shear rate. From this you can calculate the impeller power draw. Depending on the particular application you may also need to use cavern theory to size the mixer.

Best advise is to send the slurry to a mixer manufacturer for them to test as if you are suspending solids there is a significant time effect. Reasonably large scale testing is your best bet for reliable results. You will also need to tell them solids size distribution.

On a side note a Haake viscometer is probably the best bet for this type of slurry.

Dear Sir,

In case you wish to convert the Viscous Slurry in to Dry Powder by machine support, I would need PHYSICAL Properties of Slurry such as Compoistion, Density, TDS, DSS, Moisture Content etc

This is just a possibility that I could be of Support to you outside the scope of your Querry.
