Design of a new TEC

08/23/2008 8:56 AM

I would like to design a new TEC for domestic use with dimensions 200mm x 200mm.

When Ambient temp Ta=30, Tec Cold Temp Tc=10 and I use an Al heat sink can you tell me the power consumption of this TEC?

Thank you

Dear Zoumbro,

What kind of TEC you are going to use? Is it Peltiers?

How can you assess the power consumption when there is no clarity on the device?

I know about TECs (Thermo Electric coolers) that use Peltiers and run on 12VDC. Depending upon the amount of cooling, they consume somewhere 60 to 360W for giving an output of different BTH.

I would request you to be more specific.

I meant BTU and no BTH.

Sorry.........

I am sorry if I was not clear enough. Yes it is a Peltier Thermoelectric Cooler.

First of all I would like to give me information about the power consumption (watt) of a commercial TEC with dimensions 40 mm x 40 mm in order to create a temperature diffrential of say -25 Celsius (when the Ambient temp=35). Also I am going to use an Al heat sink to cool the hot side.

Secondly I am planning to design and make my own TEC for a domestic application with dimensions 200mm x 200mm in order to use it in the above temperature conditions. Which formula can be used in order to find the approximate power consumption (watt).
