Ash Heat Content

08/26/2008 8:14 AM

Can somebody advise what is the enthalpy of biomass (ie. pellets) ash (kJ/kg) provided by biomass combustion? Or to refer to citations.

It is needed for combustion calculations

The enthalpy will vary with the composition and source of the biomass. Dry softwood chips will have a different figure to mashed swede, for example.

Consider doing process trials to determine this information.

Thanks PWSlack,

Is it possible to advise for a range. To some calculations have been used as average DH=6700kJ/kg, taken by a written source but justification is needed. Therefore an indication of enthalpy ranges should be very helpful.

Please state the temperature of the ash.

The ash temperature during combustion is T=1.390oC. Is there any calculation method - equation. Please state.

Perhaps no trees were harmed in your post, but as an individual with a Scandinavian heritage, I must take great offense at your comment about "mashed swede"! I dare say if the "Flying Circus" were still about, they would pick up on this complaint and then where would you be???
