Non Ultra Low Sulphur Diesl in ULSD engines

First emission complaint engines are tested using low sulfur diesel the engine you intend to run on diesel high in sulfur the emissions from the engine will not meet EPA or Euro commission requirements

second you would kill your engines fuel injection system as the injectors are are designed to operate on low sulfur diesel(The injector Nozzle holes are selected based on low sulfur diesel characters)

Would you please explain % sulphur in relation to high sulphur content fuels you are using.

Do you mean over 0.5% sulphur, over 1% sulphur or 4%+. I have seen boilers and slow speed marine diesels run on the latter fuels mentioned. Some bunkers or residual fuels have been up around 6% sulphur.

The supply of older high sulfur usage engines is insufficient for refuse equipment?

we are out to buy new equipment, we specified "2007" the emissions are not really an issue with us here in the Pacific, our environment(air) is deemed prestine, however the trucks coming out of the states all require to be low sulphur as you all are aware of.

we are leaning toward new "2007" equipment(aerial device, refuse equipment, etc...) mounted on old emission chassis. we want to satisfy however the homework of medium/high sulfur fuel in ULSD engines.

i'm the guy holding the wrench on this rock, we're about 2thousand miles south of Hawaii and we want to be certain before comitting we're quite a ways away from quick help.

Why don't you contact the representative of the engine manufacturer in question that covers your location? They have a vested interest in having you buy their engines, even if you are not buying the engines directly from them.

Were I to ask myself these questions I would determine the changes made from those engines designed for high sulfur fuel.

If you run this engine, designed to run on ULSD, on a fuel of higher sulphur content than 0,05%, the first thing that you will possibly do is poison the DOC (Diesel Engine Catalysts)...............this will probably occur in a matter of weeks.

The higher sulphur content will also increase your PM (Particulate Matter).............this includes solids, VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds-includes heavy hydrocarbons) and sulphates and NOXs (Nitrogen Oxides)

Apart from this the engine will also run inefficiently, which is the cause of the above mentioned problems and more.

As a matter of interest in some countries adulteration of LSD fuels with high sulphur content kerosene occurs.........this is not nice!!!!

Also as a matter of SAFETY, ULSD fuels generate high static charges of electricity, therefore take all measures necessary to overcome this problem.
