Air blower

08/30/2008 1:56 AM

Hi There,

How to calculate proper air blower capacity for my (W x L x depth) Sewage Treatment Plant aeration tank 6m x 12m x 2.40m (2.40m is the water depth level)

There is Sewer Plant Operation program at the St. Augustine Fla. Vocational Techenical School.

You could look them up on the internet and ask someone there.

I would think if you can smell something you need more air flow. lol

Dear,

incoming BOD value is also important.

if u provide this than i will able to give reqd. air flow.

Hi Sanjay,

The required BOD must be below 50ppm, the flow rate is (+-) 90m3/day and correction on deminsion 3m x 12m x 2.40m (water depth).

many thanks

Based on a few assumptions, you won't go far wrong with 35 m3/h. Blower motor rating likely to be 5.5 kW.

Please give me incoming effeulent BOD value, then it is possible to calculate airflow requirement.

Sanjay.

It would rather depend upon the dissolved oxygen coming in, the required dissolved oxygen going out, the oxygen demand of the sewage, and its flowrate and temperature.

I would be happy to calculate the amount of air required, but it is imperative that I know more about the sewage you are treating and the degree of accuracy you require. As a rule of thumb, and to account for some miscalculations, you can use 2600 cfm of air per pound of incoming BOD. That will give you the daily requirement, then divide that by 1440 (minutes per day) to get the cfm required.

If you want a more accurate calculation, I would need the BOD incoming, elevation (amsl) of the tank, temperature of the liquor, and the amount of ammonia in the inlet stream. With that information, I can tell you the amount of air required to treat the sewage BOD and TKN (Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen) in your influent. These are the main constituents with which you may need to be concerned as far as treating with air. Other nutrients and contaminants may be present and in need of treatment, but most of those require the addition of other chemicals for removal.
