What did you ping? Try a loopback test to the nic from the same nic on the same pc.

You need to tell us the results of the ping command. Were packets sent? were packets returned?

I ping the IP manually assigned to the second PC and show "Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (100%received)

Have you assigned a folder/directory either an entire drive [\C:] as shared? Have you assigned IP of one of PC as gateway for another one?

I went through this nightmare only 2 weeks ago. And it is really a nightmare. Lots of differing info out there. After a week of researching i came across a few things...try this first...if it don't fix, let me know and I will post another method...

Oh...and another thing...make sure that your firewall is disabled. Some people claim that they had to remove/unistall ZoneAlarm. I'm not sure what that is/was as i could not find it.

Good luck

If you are not able to share Folder or Drives, try this method also..

Open My Computer --> Click "Tools" and "Folder option" -->Click "View" -->Go to "Advanced Settings" -->Uncheck "Use Simple File Sharing(Recommended)"

Thanks & Regards.,

Did you share the drive or folder in the source computer?

Because of the ping result you are connected correctly. In addition to setting up your network and sharing the source drive you should also verify the the anti-virus on the either pc is not blockin you. If you have a single user license some software like Norton will block you from being able to network (why I do not know but I had this same problem about 1 year ago and solved it but unistalling Norton and installing PC Chillin (3 user). If it is the anti virus you will get a message saying you do not have permission.

To share a folder between two networked computers using Window's XP:

First, create a folder that you want to share, give it a name like, "NetworkShare," then right-click on the folder and select "Sharing and Security..." from the right-click menu. On the "Sharing" tab click the button labeled, "Share this folder."

You can do this at the drive level (share all of C: drive), but this is not recommended unless you take steps to ensure that your network is secure, or you can share a single folder where you can put "stuff" that you need to use at both computers instead of sharing everything you have.
