I found this video on YouTube & thought I'd share it here. Personally I'm not an expert on techniques for manufacturing optical fiber, so if you know better then the video speak up and educate us all

Optical fibers are pilled from molten liquid. They are also coated ano ther layer of different optical property and finally cladding goes over the fiber for safety.
