[0h, who is he?] That my dear friend is Mr. Higgs! He can't find his boson and now everybody is looking for it!

We have a few threads running at the moment concerning the LHC! And as usual, with all experiments, there will be dangers! Mostly presented by people who don't understand the processes involved, ie the public! Many people ask 'why is this needed?' And the answer is simple enough, to understand our surroundings better. I visited the 'Synchrotron' in England a few weeks back which is another ring that produces powerful x-ray beams! These have been used to look at things in great depth! The spin-offs include, advanced medicines, material analysis, development of new materials, etc! I am almost 100% certain that the LHC will also advance our knowledge in simular directions! It will not only look for the Higgs Boson, which I'm sure Mr. Higgs will be eager to find but also how these elements react and combine enabling us to modify and advance our technical know-how! As explained by many a scientist, the collisions they are going to be observing happen every day here on Earth, but it is hard to catch one in the act! In the LHC, it will be in a controlled environment with no risk of engulfing the world at large!

I look forward to reading or seeing some of the results even though it my be way over my head!

No need to apologise cn, it was taken in good faith!

Here are a few photos of the 'Synchrotron'!

It's only about 500m in diameter but it's still impressive! Check out the site!

It seems some gas leakage last week, so the equipment has to be shut down.

I know it last week, is this news?
