Delete problem

09/16/2008 11:05 PM

I've got a weird problem with my MS Outlook Express. I can't delete my unwanted email. It started when I deleted more than 2,000 unwanted emails at high speed. Now I can't delete off any mail at all. Any suggestions what the problem may be, and how it can be corrected? I'm still running Win98SE (yeah, I know, but my video editing and cd-writing software work best on it). Thanks.

Hello DVader1000

MS Outlook Express is a truncated version of MS Outlook.

Neither of these are very good Email Clients, particularly Outlook Express.

What has probably happened when you tried deleting those 2000+ emails is that you ran short on RAM/Recycle Bin storage.

Suggestion would be to re-boot the PC, perhaps 2 or 3 times, to hopefully clear the log-jam.

Rather than continue using Outlook Express, you would find a better Email Client using Pegasus Email, (Invented here in New Zealand) far more powerful, easy to use, always free, and no bugs, Malware or Adware.

Get Pegasus Email from: http://www.pmail.com/

Kind Regards....

Thanks for the link. Pmail was really user-friendly. It took me less than half an hour to figure out how to use it. Now all I have to do is figure out how to import my mail and address book from my OE.

And with what Sparkstation suggested: delete ONLY about 10 or so at a time, maybe more, but only to reboot your system incrementally.

I seem to remember that I went through this some while back.

Good luck!

Okay, thanks. One problem with being Force-sensitive is that I can move my fingers at speeds far higher than the computer can cope with.

Hi DVader1000

I had a similar problem and it stems from a corrupted *.PST file look for SCANPST.EXE put out by Microsoft, it should solve your problem, back up the Outlook.pst file before you use it. Any problems, please ask.

Good luck Tony

Hello DVader1000:

some really good advice from Sparkstation. Another thing you could try if the problem still lingers, is this:

To increase disk space by deleting stored newsgroup messages and stored emails

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Maintenance tab, select the options you want for maintaining the size of all message files on your computer. To compact, delete, or remove messages from all or specific message files now, click Clean Up Now, and then follow the instructions on the screen.

Good luck.................

stay safe

Another thing to watch out for is the size of your PST file. When they get up around 1 GB in size, Outlook can become unstable. I use a different PST file for each calendat year to keep the file sizes manageable.
