Flow Sensor Transmission

hi guys am an instrumentation technician in a cement plant now, i have installed a flow sensor for cooling motor bearings where the sensor and the controller are 25 meters apart now after comissoning the controller has a wire break alarm n yet all the transmisson wires are healthy.the supply to the controller is 90-240 a.c and i have supplied it with a 110 a.c supply.then i had taken the controller n sensor to the workshop n connected it and it was okay where it worked as expected with a 240 a.c supply with no additional transmisson wire apart from sensor to controller. now what should i do?

Hello kinyanjui

In your situation you have checked:

  1. The Power Supply to the unit.
  2. You have checked the wiring for continuity.
  3. You have connected the sensor correctly.

The Controller is saying "Wire Break Alarm ".

Reboot = Reset the Controller, by leaving all connected and disconnecting the electric supply to the controller, at the switchboard or power outlet.

Wait 3 - 5 minutes. (This allows capacitors to discharge in the Controller, and the Controller should go to the Default Position = reboot/re-set.

Switch Power back on after that 3 - 5 minutes.

If you still have a problem after the re-boot/re-set, there are now only 3 possibilities:

  1. Sensor is faulty = Open circuit = Replace Sensor
  2. Controller is faulty = Replace Controller
  3. Sensor and Controller are faulty = Replace both Sensor and Controller
  4. With any of the above, if the equipment was new, contact the suppliers.

Thanks sparks i changed the controller first with a simillar one n got the expected resullts as for feridun comment i had checked the status of the transmisson wires n had an expected ohmic value of about approx.0.01 now its workin i dint expect the controlller to be faulty as its new.cheers man! u guys are great.

1-Either the loop resistance of tranmission wires is too high for the controller to bias the sensor, or

2-The controller cannot produce enough bias voltage when supplied with 110VAC.

Please redo the workshop test at 240VAC, with transmission wires this time, and feedback as Sparkstation said.
