Hello earnestpaul

Please supply a picture of the "Diamond Markings".

It is possible that the "Diamond Markings" you are talking about are placed there by the sheet metal fabricators, to stiffen the sheet metal, and prevent annoying vibrations from being transmitted along the ducting.

Without a picture, it is not possible to know which "diamond Markings" you are meaning.

To place a picture into a post, please refer: http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/15743/How-to-insert-Graphics-into-your-Post-to-make-it-more-readable-or-interesting

Kind Regards....

It is indeed for stiffening/dampening.

This is for stiffening and sound damping normaly the stamping is from the inside I am not sure if it would make any difference to performance but I have never seen it the other way.

Never seen any done from the outside. I would suggest it is from the inside because of a production method of machine setup.
