Energy Efficiency of Electric Injection Molding Machines

09/23/2008 11:05 PM

Hello everyone.

I'm looking for a reliable information about the energy savings of all-electric injection moulding machines versus hydraulic. Has anyone seen a serious study on this subject ?

Thank you and have a nice day

Hi,

Use VFD on hydraulic pump motor and hookup to machine control you save lot og energy. Secondly use good heat insulation on all heaters; this saves lot of energy.

This is only one article.

Talk to the manufacturers and get the specs on their IMM and you can compare the energy consumption yourself. For accuracy alone you would want electric IMM.

I recall a company that I worked with using new all electric equipment out of Japan. This company produced CT closures for HBA market in north east USA.

The machines were very quick and precise, but there were issues with the frames. Not the mold frames, but the press frames themselves. They were of light weight aluminum. The Al was not the problem, but the lightweighted frames did not hold the equipment sufficiently. They started to see flex durning clamping. This is an obvious problem. Luckily,as I recall, the machines were leased.

Be sure you check the specs and lay out of the equipment so they are up to the use you intend.

I understand that all-electric injection moulding machines are still limited to small capacities.
