Dispensing Small Drops of Fluid

09/24/2008 12:00 PM

I need to dispense small fluids drops of max 100 um diameters on edges of specific materials to then via Hi speed digital camera determine as part of our quality control the penetration rate of different materials.

Would very much appreciate to know what dispensing devices, such as micro syringes could deliver fluids drops of approx 50 to 100 um in diameter.

Just a thought - The droplets of a ink_jet printer may be smaller and can be controlled.

That size of drops corresponds to some kind of sprayer/nozzle or as said above.Do you spread on a surface? do you want meseaure penetration in a gas chamber?.I ask because there is a lot information about what relates droplets sizes/holes in nozzles/injection pressures/penetration depth/pulverization degree, studied for diesel injctions systems and a lot of people here could help you here.

Hi,

Actually we wish to dispense drops of some aqueous solutions, such as lactic acid on the edge of some materials (typically 250 to 500 microns in width) which we produce, celluose based.

We wish to measure the penetration rate of the fluid into the edges of the materials which we test. For this pupose, we would use hi speed digital cameras which would record the area reduction of the drop as it penetrates into the edge of the material.

Thus we envisage the need to place drops of approx 50 to 150 um on the edge of the material to then record the penetration rate.

I thank you for your comments and wellcome any additional information, kind regards

ralf

Dear Ralf,

Take a look at www.efd-inc.com, MicroDot tips, syringes and dispensers. Maybe they have a solution...

Best regards,

There are good number of companies makes nozle for microdispenser. One example is inkget printer head. That may need your need but if FED does not work then you may have to modify ink jet printer and get what you need.

thank you for your comments.

what i need is to be place single drops of fluid on the edge of the material sample, as a routine procedure. So I envisaged that I would need a drop dispenser such as micro syringe to place the drop on the edge. Could and ink printer dispense single drops onto the edge of the material which itself is between 250 and 400 microns in thickness?

I am not familiar how ink jet printers actually "spray the drops of ink" onto the paper surfaces.

If you could provide any additional comments, I would be very gratefull,

Best regards

My best quess would be ultra-accurate sample dispensers used by the medical/clinical sampling. Go to e.g. labsystems.com web page to see what I mean.

Look at Marco GmbH for micro dot dispensing valves.
