Hello, TRANSFORMER!

For what occupation or field are you intending to use the software? Make it clear.

Now I can only say, that every self-respected software maker used to claim that its software is the best and always availible for customers.

MS Project will work just fine.

It's not the only software a project manager uses.

You also need a spread sheet like Excel and a tool like Visio.

MS Project is great for producing you WBS and keeping track of costs and seeing where your slack and lead times are.

The software would be used to track building projects due to expansion or process improvement. I need a straightforward method to establish timelines for the many phases of a manufacturing facility expansion. Ex: Permits aquired, concrete pouring, equipment delivery, etc. Thank you.

You will probably be stuck with "Microsoft Project". They have put all the other software companies out of business.

www.primavera.com Primavera has several different products depending how complex you want to get or how much you want to spend. Their baseline product is Suretrak, and is comparable to MS Project. I've used both for construction project management. Some clients require schedules to be submitted in a certain format, and Suretrak can create, save, and modify schedules in a Primavera "P3" format. From what I've seen, construction (at least larger projects) lean toward Primavera.

In comparison of Suretrak and MS Project, my preferences lean toward Suretrak. Both have very similar capabilities but Suretrak has better schedule presentation capabilities, were MS Project seems to have taken a step backwards in this area with their latest release. Suretrak is not perfect - I find it less user friendly than MS Project, and its limitations on name lengths can be annoying.

Check the website, it has more than I can post here.

MS Project will work quite adequately. I work at a Fortune 500 company and it is our standard system. A economical program with good capabilities.
