Windows Vista

09/29/2008 12:57 PM

Can a Windows Vista OS connect remotely to a Windows XP Pro OS in the same manner as an XP Pro to another XP Pro OS?

Also, does Windows Vista support the operation of AutoCad?

I have no trouble using my Vista laptop to connect to my XP workstation using remote desktop.

Don't know about Vista and ACAD...sorry.

Recently had to replace by notebook with a new one and it came with vista. The answer to Autocad is actually quite simple since I am running Autodesk Inventor Suite 2009 and SoildWorks 2008 on this new notebook. You need to know that Auto Desk has giving up Unix as the development platform and now uses Windows for its development and writing of software.

AutoCAD has problems on Vista, but you can get around them by elevating the process to adminstrator privs:

Right click on launch link
-> properties
-> compatability tab
-> tick the box at the bottom "Run this program as an administrator".

I was aware that Autocad was not 100% compatible with Vista, so, when I recently got a new computer, I had XP loaded into the new computer. I don't know what the problems are with Vista, but I don't care. As long as I have XP and my Autocad works as it should, I'm satisfied. Most of the computer manufacturers realizing the problems with Vista (including Microsoft) make the XP OS available as an option on their new computers.
