Weird issue with my computer CD-DVD player/recorder

10/01/2008 10:14 AM

I use my computer CD-DVD player/recorder to rip CD tracks to my HD so I can then sync my Zune to it for music. I have one CD that my drive will not recognize although it will play in my wife's computer DVD player/recorder and in my stereo systems. The CD is in pristine shape. Any ideas what is going on with this?

I think this might be due to a difference in formats. Have you tried looking at the directory of the disk? The drive or the software you use to rip the tracks might be looking for a different format than the files on the disk. You will probably have to dig into the settings for the software or the drive to take of this.

You didn't mention if this is an original CD or one of your duplicates. Some older generation players don't support CDRs/CD-RWs/DVD-Rs/DVD-RWs/DVD+Rs/DVD+RWs.

This is the original purchased CD, actually Enya's Watermark. The one other album I have by her on the same label presents no problem as it was ripped successfully. So far I have ripped to WMA files, 53 albums ranging from Pink Floyd to Rimsky Koraskov. It makes no sense.

Its a protected CD.

If its from Sony BMG, it may have put a rootkit virus on your PC. Once the virus is there, you need special software to remove it.

There was a big ruckus about this a few years ago, lots of people stopped buying Sony Music CDs because of this!!!
