canned pumps

10/06/2008 1:45 AM

We want to take cooling water for our 120 MW hydro machines in an underground power station (high head) from the draft tubes. The approximate requirement of water shall be 250 litres per second and pressure at pump outlet shall be about 6 kg/sq. cm. Are canned pumps for this capacity available? We wish you utilise these cooling water pumps for dewatering also. Any suggestions ?

Why use a pump at all? You already have huge amounts of water available under considerable pressure. Use Venturi for dewatering.

Exactly. There's up to a further 1/7 of a megawatt to extract from the cooling water stream. Back-pressure turbines, anyone?
