Short Answers Only

Respected members plz give short answers needed for understanding my project in more better way...wht is difference b/w long radius and short radius elbow?

difference b/w tube and pipe?

what is automatic girth welding ?

wht does means pressure rating (for example 150, 300, 600, etc)

can we use only poly ethylene tape for UG piping ?

whts the difference between red lead primer and lead oxide primer ?

if some metal have 57000 psi of yield strength in place of 60000 should we reject it ?

A. Long Radius ELL - Center to end = 1.5 d, Short Radius ELL - Center to end = 1d

B. Tube is normally small and is based on O.D. Pipe can be very small but often goes up to and beyond 72" diameter. Pipe sizes are based on nominal sizes (Example: 50mm DN = 2" NPS, 100mm DN = 4" NPS, etc)

C. Automatic Girth Welding (AGW) is a circumferential weld done by a machine. Often used on thin wall stainless steel Hygenic piping.

D. Pressure Rating is the same as Flange Class (example: A 150# flange rating is the same as a Class 150 Flange)

E. Re: the use of Polyethylene tape on underground piping. Yes but it depends on the commodity. If it is allowed above ground then you can use it underground.

F. You should contact a paint company for this one.

G. Only you, the Code and your Client can answer this one.

difference b/w tube and pipe?

http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/11077#comment103495 look at entire thread!

whts the difference between red lead primer and lead oxide primer ?

Lead oxide PbO is called litharge. Its NOT red in color.

Pb3O4 is lead oxide called. It is Red in color.

Pb2O3 is sometimes called lead oxide, technically its lead sesquioxide.

PBO2 is called plattnerite and is a rare mineral form not found in commerce.

Just like there are multiple oxides of iron: FeO,Fe2O3,Fe3O4 there are similar analogs for lead.

Lead Oxide Can correctly describe several oxides of Lead, One of which is Red.

if some metal have 57000 psi of yield strength in place of 60000 should we reject it ?

What was order specification? if 60000psi was minimum yield strength required in order documents, then 57,000psi does not comply with specification. Get approval from designer for variance or reject material.

When in doubt: Protect the customer!

How: Intelligently manage risk!

By: Using facts and data.

In keeping with my own advice, here is MSDS sheet for Red Lead:

  • difference b/w long radius and short radius elbow?

Pressure drop. Long radius elbows give less pressure drop.

  • difference b/w tube and pipe?

One finds tube in heat exchangers and pipe virtually everywhere else.

  • whts the difference between red lead primer and lead oxide primer ?

If "lead oxide" means "red oxide", then red lead primer is illegal in the UK whereas red oxide isn't.
