Solar LEDs in Low-Voltage Series

10/09/2008 10:40 AM

Are there any solar panel led lights consisting of a string of lights wired in series for outdoor use. If so who is the manufacturer? and what would the cost be? What voltage? I would be using this in a residential application 110v dropped down transformer to12v or 24v. How many lights would come in the set of series.

Most garden equipment retail outlets in the UK have outdoor lighting. The LED isn't common; most over-the-counter equipment still uses filament bulbs.

Economy isn't really an issue, yet, with garden lighting.

I have solar LED lillypads in my pond. The wife spotted them at Lowes and thought they would be wonderful. It consists of 3 floating lillys (LED in middle of flower) and one lillypad (solar panel inset - 3"x4" or so in size). It looks cool floating in the pond at night. However, it doesn't sound like you are looking for solar water lillys. I think you'll be hard pressed to find solar powered Christmas lights. The market is a bit limited (only places that don't get snow) unless people start enjoying the sport of climbing on the roof to clean off solar panels every morning. Ladders are bad enough without snow and ice. But who knows, after all they make solar LED water lillys!
