Whooops - I was so taken back by this question I should have said [length x height], but then realized that you are probably asking a different question anyways such as:

What is the appropriate ducting area for a given airflow to ensure that there is not excessive pressure drop due to velocity?

Is that a more appropriate question that you meant to ask?

Round duct? Area = pi / 4 x Dia squared

Square duct? (not likely) Area = Length x Width

Or do you mean total surface area of the duct?

In which case you multiply area x length.

What exactly are you asking?!?!?!?

Area x length sound like volume to me.

Agree, Surface area would be closer to perimiter x length, But im not sure why you would need that. I can see needing volume/flow information.

Bottom line: What is the real question? application?

You really need to put yourself in the place of whoever you are asking for help. There are some who can easily guess hidden meanings. Not me.

Your problem probably has a simple solution, but first the problem must be stated.

Thanks.

determine the total length by the demension its a ply line of the duct then mutiply by the length

this will give you the sq footage

You have an amazing ability to use words which I do not understand. Either that or I have an amazing inability to understand plain English. Let's see...demension?...a ply line?... I will sleep on it. Perhaps something will come to me during my REM sleep. I think I feel a nightmare coming on.

As you have failed to provide even the most elemental information needed to respond to your question,"YOU deserve the nightmare"and the "aroused morning stud".

I would imagine it isn't, especially if you have to convincingly explain to your wife, that you were dreaming of her and also explain that she was not the cause of your nightmare! What a price to pay just for screwing up a question!!!

I know that my dogs dream as you can watch them acting out movement that resembles running, But what about "Ducks" do you suppose they dream or have nightmares about being plucked and roasted. I haven't enjoyed "Duck" in a while now, and I think that I still have one somewhere near the bottom of my freezer. It became an annoying trespasser and my neighbor didn't seem to care about that so now his "daydreaming Duckinmypond" resides in a small cavity in my 20 cu. ft chest freezer, surrounded by other tasty ideas.

I'm truly sorry! But in the interest of time, I find it difficult to provide a single answer to your question. The problem you see is I am unable to determine whether you are asking about the sq/ft before or after the removal of the S--t and feathers. There fore I must answer yes and no. We could compute the square footage from a frontal position or an aft position as if it would be flying into, or "passing wind" "Don't ya see", or from the "broad" side, as it was a hen, "Don't ya know! Your question bares a strange resemblance to the original post, in that is is woefully short on information and really leaves me guessing whether you might be seeking an invite to share the "Duck le' Orange, or possibly the

[PEEKING DUCK] fromthepond!

Re: square footage

Whether the duct is square or rectangular or a trapazoid, you multiply the short length by the long length, or in the case of a square any one side by any other side. If the if the duct is irregular, like it has four different measurements, then add all the numbers together, divide by 4, and multiply the result by itself. If it is L shaped, then compute it as a square, and then compute the area that isn't duct and subtract that away from the previous square area.

If the duct is round then measure across the duct to get the diameter. Divide that number by 2 and get the radius and multiply that by Pi (3.14). Remember always that { cake are square and pie are round, and that cobbler may even be elliptic } but if you wanted to know the square footage of cobbler you should have ordered cobbler not cake!

Cobbler don't get painted, it gets a lattice on top, Duck le' Orange gets painted with sumthin" good, but you may not wish to know goes into the paint.

All this talk about the square footage of our ducts made me a little frisky. So, while you guy are enjoying your Duck le' orange entree and cobbler dessert. I'm going to go check out the square footage of my significant others beaver nightcap eagerly waiting for me.

See now you have totally changed the discussion from square footage of duct to Velocity, Friction and Momentum.

All though, the cobbler would still make a nice beginning to sweeten up the aquatic mammal know as a Beaver.

I have heard it called cooter, beaver, pussy cat, and a variety of other cute little descriptive terms and the anatomically correct description of that body area. but never "a piece of duct", and never discuss the size.
