Cable selection

10/12/2008 12:36 PM

three phase transformer of capacity 3600 KVA,output voltage of 433vac,Rated current secondary : 4833 Amps.In this regard we want to run a cable from transformer secondary to Incomer ACB located at distance from 300 metres from the transformer location. How many runs of cables to be laid ? What are the design factors involved in designing the cables? otherwise selecting Busduct is good option or not? pl expain in details.

What are your responsibilities on this job? are you an engineer? degree? Where are you located? Do you have a code that governs the installation? Will you ever have the full 4833 amps running over 3 hrs at a time? I assume you want to use copper.

Then either get hold of the local code, or the "we" should consult "those" that do cable calculations for the local code, and the "we" should pay for the calculation and the warranty that comes with the payment.

wareagle is right. should follow the local code and in my opinion better to place the transformer near the load to reduce initial investments.

you can use Bus-Ducts , but you can keep your transformer near load centres.

Please refer to Local Code, I recommend to select the Bus- Duct and Reduce distance of ACB to be around 10 meter. If you used Cable: Consider to voltage drop and tightness connection of cable to terminal of transformer and at the ACB.
